Python `tempfile.gettempdir()` ne respecte pas TMPDIR

Question

J'utilise un cluster linux partagé et je veux que mon répertoire temporaire soit /tmp/username plutôt que le /tmp par défaut.

Selon le tempfile docs, gettempdir() doit utiliser la variable d'environnement $TMPDIR pour déterminer le répertoire temporaire.

Cependant, cela ne semble pas être le cas ?!

$ export TMPDIR='/tmp/username' 
$ python -c "\ 
import os 
import tempfile 
print(os.environ['TMPDIR']) 
print(tempfile.gettempdir())" 
/tmp/username 
/tmp

Le répertoire existe-t-il? Est-il inscriptible par l'utilisateur? Sinon, cela ne fonctionnera pas et Python se repliera sur d'autres emplacements. Vous pouvez voir le code here, reproduit ici pour référence:
